I found this Philco in an antique shop in Madison, WI, during a visit.
I've been looking for one of these for awhile, so I was happy to pay $30,
which I consider quite reasonable. The tag said "works" on it, but I
doubt the dealer had actually plugged it in. The cord was almost
completely disintegrated, and it would be quite a hazard if plugged in.
The case was in great shape, but it really needed to be polished up.
I cleaned and polished the case using a toothbrush, water, and finally
Novus plastic polish. The case cleaned up beautifully. After that,
I pulled the chassis partway out and attached a new power cord. I
was surpised to see that the radio worked immediately! So, it was
in fact advertised properly. This one was a quick fix, and I'm very
pleased with it.
