Electronically, the cord is very bad on the radio, so I have not plugged it in to
check it out.
I picked up this Firestone radio at an antique shop for $20, which seemed
pretty reasonable. I love the woodwork on the radio, with the curved front
and intricate grille cutouts. The dial is in great shape, as are the knobs.
The finish, however, will need to be redone. This radio has a photo-finish
decal on the front, mimicing several different styles of wood including a nice
burled walnut. I wanted to try out a couple of different restoration tactics
on a photo-finish set, so this will be my guinea pig. One idea is to scan
the photo-finish into a computer, edit it, then print it out and reattach it.
The other option would be to recreate it using actual veneers. I'll have
to give it some thought before I tackle this one.
