The radio didn't power on at all when purchased. I pulled the back and tested
the tubes, and found that the 35W4 tube was dead. I replaced that, and the radio
powered up, but of course with a loud hum. I have gone ahead and recapped the
radio, and it works great! Now, I just need to fix the case..
I picked up this Emerson at a local antique mall for $20. Usually,
when I see a radio for $20, I buy it regardless. I seem to like the
real loser radios, which eat up lots of time. Well, this one shouldn't
be too bad. The case is in great shape with no chips, cracks, etc. The
finish isn't even that bad, I think I can fix it up with a complete
refinish. The black trim on the sides is flaking off, but that should
be easy to fix. I'll need to find a new knob, as this radio has two
different knobs (the one on the right is correct).
