This is the famous Delco 1231A, with the "ribbon candy" grill which is pictured
in so many radio books. I found this beauty in excellent shape in a local
antique shop. I paid a little more for it than I would have liked, but I really
like the unique grill, and the small size of this bakelite beauty.
Electronically, the radio had a nice hum when purchased. I ordered replacements
for the electrolytic and regular paper capacitors. Once these were replaced,
the radio worked great! This radio has quite a minimalist design. There are
very few parts under the chassis. The chassis does not even screw onto the
case, it is only held on by the knobs! Despite its beautiful appearance, I suspect
this was quite a cheap radio in its day!
